Award Season for Theater Geeks

Hey Guys!
Like some Mason students I know, I love Broadway. And Broadway is no different from Hollywood with its award season. They have some minor awards before the "big night" (which is the Tony Awards). The first round of awards nominations has started to come out and like the Emmys and the Oscars, this gives followers a hint to who and what shows are going to be Tops for the Tonys. As of right now for the Critics Outer Circle Awards 2007 nominations, Disney's Mary Poppins topples the rest with 11 nominations including Outstanding Actor in a Musical for Gavin Lee, who plays Burt and Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Ashley Brown who plays everybody's favorite nanny,Mary Poppins. Ashley Brown faces some stiff competition from fellow nominees including Kristin Chenowith for The Apple Tree and veteran Donna Murphy for LoveMusik. Other big nominees include The Coast of Utopia with 9 nominations and the play Frost/Nixon, which is based on true events about a notable interview between former President Nixon and reporter David Frost.
Critics hold the veterans in high regard including nominees Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins), Christopher Plummer ( Inherit the Wind) and David Hyde Pierce (Curtains) but embrace the newbies including Ashley Brown, Gavin Lee, and Orfeh (Legally Blonde) who do fantastic jobs in their new non-traditional musicals. Believe me, I have seen Mary Poppins twice and its not your typical musical. Lets just say it involves a lot of looking up to the skys.. Well, we shall see who critics honor on May 14 when the winners are announced.
Well thats all for now!
Signing off,
Sam
