You know you want it.
Hey everyone!
Okay, so the fateful day is upon us. June 29, a day that will go down in pop-culture record books. I-Phone day!! So, this godsend of a gadget has been selling for approx. 3 1/2 hrs. Lines for the phone have been starting since Monday even though it will take a chunk of change out of the buyers' wallets selling from $500 for the lower gigabyte phone and approx. $600 for the higher gb phone.
News reporters have been reporting about of course, the disadvantages of the phone including the slow internet and the difficult keypad as well as other numerous "kinks." For $500, its so worth it! I rather wait though until Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple and the Apple Engineers come out with more stuff for the I-Phone. If you don't know what I am talking about see the I-Pod as an example. I will be the first person in line for a hot pink I-Phone.
But honestly, the question I raise with the phone. Is why do you need all the stuff? Granted its easy access to the internet, pictures, music, and a phone which can fit in your purse or pocket. But if you have an i-pod or a phone that as the internet, why do you need the I-Phone? The answer for me is simple: Its just so cool!!! I am a gadget person and I love that kinda stuff. I guess as we get older, we still have some kid left in all of us... Except toys become gadgets like the I-Phone.. I still can't believe all this fuss is for a phone!?

Award Season for Theater Geeks
Hey Guys!
Like some Mason students I know, I love Broadway. And Broadway is no different from Hollywood with its award season. They have some minor awards before the "big night" (which is the Tony Awards). The first round of awards nominations has started to come out and like the Emmys and the Oscars, this gives followers a hint to who and what shows are going to be Tops for the Tonys. As of right now for the Critics Outer Circle Awards 2007 nominations, Disney's Mary Poppins topples the rest with 11 nominations including Outstanding Actor in a Musical for Gavin Lee, who plays Burt and Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Ashley Brown who plays everybody's favorite nanny,Mary Poppins. Ashley Brown faces some stiff competition from fellow nominees including Kristin Chenowith for The Apple Tree and veteran Donna Murphy for LoveMusik. Other big nominees include The Coast of Utopia with 9 nominations and the play Frost/Nixon, which is based on true events about a notable interview between former President Nixon and reporter David Frost.
Critics hold the veterans in high regard including nominees Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins), Christopher Plummer ( Inherit the Wind) and David Hyde Pierce (Curtains) but embrace the newbies including Ashley Brown, Gavin Lee, and Orfeh (Legally Blonde) who do fantastic jobs in their new non-traditional musicals. Believe me, I have seen Mary Poppins twice and its not your typical musical. Lets just say it involves a lot of looking up to the skys.. Well, we shall see who critics honor on May 14 when the winners are announced.
Well thats all for now!

Tragedy...
Hey Guys!
I wish I could write to you in better circumstances but I can't. What happened on Monday was truly a horrible act and will be one of the worst tragedies in the history of America. Hearing what happened through a phone call with my mother, I could not believe it. How could it happen at Tech? Well it did.. Look at the history of horrible events such as 9/11 and the Oklahoma City Bombing. It happened where you least expect it. That's the sad thing about events like these, it always happens in a quiet neighbor or a landmark that is a symbol to a certain people.
This tragedy hit home for all of us because we might know someone there or it happened to a neighbor of ours. The "aftermath" of that tragic day is starting to unravel where the wounds are too fresh for students and those affected the most. We recently, just discovered that Cho Seung sent a package to NBC Studios in NY with pictures, a letter, and video spewing words of hate in between the two shootings. Also the WBC, or Western Baptist Church has recently professed to the media their opinion of the matter. I really do not want to post their message in my blog because I have my own opinions about it as well as many others.. Just research it and you shall see. Their leader has also claimed to the media that they will try to be at every memorial service and funeral for the victims protesting what they believe went wrong in our society and "why God punished VA Tech."
What we as a community need to do is to take time to heal. No debates or speeches about what could have been done because honestly sometimes when those actions take place the results seem to be irrational. There is new information coming out by the day and we as a community and a country need to process before we come to any conclusions or start to play the "blame game" as so many in the media call it. All of us will never forget that day or those wh0 were lost because it really could have happened on any college campus. God Bless, Tech!

Summer is coming!
Hey Guys!
So I decided to get readers pumped for the summer! April, at least for me, seems like a never ending cycle of papers, tests and projects and a bunch of other stuff that will never end. May, in April doesn't seem like a month away but maybe like 5 months away like we were sorta in first semester. But that just me! When I am on the internet I like to count down the days to the biggest summer blockbusters like POTC 3: Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Harry Potter 5: Order of the Phoenix.
Summer is the biggest time for movies and one of the biggest weekends for films is Memorial Day and Independence Day Weekend. Movies like Harry Potter and Spider-Man series have come out during the summer and shattered records in the process. Both films have been highly anticipated since the previous movie in each respective series has come out. Other movies like Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer are anticipated for summer opening and having a huge cult following. These movies as well as others, are made by blockbuster directors and producers like Michael Bay and juggernaut Jerry Bruckheimer.
However, films are not only being anticipated for summertime fun. There are books (besides summer reading) that are already being predicted as the Top of the New York Times Bestseller List. One such book, is of course Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (for those who don't know its the last in a seven book series). It has already been shattering records with about two months to go. Harry Potter Book 7 and Harry Potter Movie 6 are coming out one week apart with midnight parties for both the book and the movie going on during the morning of the openings. Both the book and the movie are coming out in July, which some would predict could be "Harry's month." Whatever the case is, there is sure to be tons of movies and books for every type of person to keep busy on the lazy days of summer. However, critics and audiences cannot predict who will be the "winners and losers" of summer until the numbers come out. Summer is one of the most unpredictable seasons in entertainment. So, we shall see.
Until next time.

Blog or not to Blog!?
Hello Broadside Online Readers!
Sorry, I couldn't come up with a cooler greeting for you guys but hey its all been done before. This section of the Broadside Online Blogs, well at least mine is going to be dedicated to stuff going on in Pop culture. I am really excited to be starting this blog and I hope your going to have an awesome time reading it as much fun as I am going to have writing it.. But before I go on telling you a little more about what to expect from me, a self-proclaimed "Pop Culture junkie," I would like to introduce myself first.
My name is Samantha D'Introno. Sam is what I usually go by. I have been working for the Broadside for about a year now and enjoying writing for all the different sections like news, opinion, and style. My position at the Broadside is Staff Reporter for the News Section. I am currently a Sophomore and a Government and International Politics major and a minor in Conflict Resolution and Analysis. I really wanted to be apart of the blogging on the Broadside's website because I just needed another thing to help me procrastinate like many typical college students. I wanted to do this as a Jon Stewart esque blog but I am not Jon Stewart and wouldn't be able to be as funny. I wanted to do something a bit refreshing for me besides doing something academic and that is where I came up with "Mindless Wanderings of Pop Culture." I also thought it would be a good idea since I am missing a lot in pop culture and I wanted to make an excuse to keep up with it.
I am going to write about television, movies, celeb dirt/gossip, and just what direction Hollywood is moving in. So enjoy what is in store! I know I am. Check back a lot for some more blogs and I am sorry for this boring one. I felt writing a little something would be helpful about myself and what I do before I start. I also didn't want to write my first blog on this whole Anna Nicole Court Case. Well, thats all for now!
Signing off, (I will maybe think of cooler catchphrase.)
